 | In Budapest, the celebration of the founding of the Hungarian State is to be held on August 20th every year. The state-sponsored celebrations and events are crowned by large fireworks over the Danube and the Gellért Hill. Formerly, the fireworks were shot up from Gellért Hill only, but nowadays the bridges and some ships serve as a starting point as well.
If you do not want to join the crowd on the streets and prefer to stay in a hotel room to watch the spectacle, you have to choose a hotel which either has rooms with river view, or a sun terrace. Such a hotel is Hotel Papillon***, at the foot of the Rosehill on the Buda side of the city. This hotel has a roof terrace, from where you can watch the fireworks. If the weather permits it, the hotel personnel serve drinks and snacks on the terrace. Out of the hotels along the Danube, Hotel Inter-Continental*****, Hotel Victoria****, art'otel**** and Hotel Gellert**** offer rooms with river view, enabling you to watch the fireworks from your armchair. In addition, Pension Budavar*** has a room on the third floor, which offers breathtaking panorama and a nice view of the event.
