Siófok is situated in the middle of the eastern basin of the lake Balaton, right at the confluence of the Sió canal. It is surrounded from north with the lake Balaton, from east with the wavy land of Mezőföld, and from the west and south with the slopy hills, which are very typical for this part of the country. The town belongs to the Somogy county. The southern beach of the lake Balaton is 70 kilometers long, out of that 17 kilometers is Siófok. Siófok can be reached from Budapest on the motorway M7 (105 kms), from Kaposvár on the highway 67 and from Nagykanizsa on the road 70. The town is also important as a rail intersection for both passenger and freight trains. It also has a waterway connection to the northern beach. There.s an airport on the territory of the town as well.

The Siófok harbour is a very interesting sight, from here leave all the scheduled pleasure boats. It has the biggest ship and boat traffic of the Balaton. In the park in front of the harbour, there.s a monument which was built for the 100th, 125th and 150th anniversary of the steamshipping on the Balaton. In the middle of the town, on the Szabadság (Freedom) square there.s a very typical building of the town, the 45 meters high water tower standing. South from here on the Fő (Main) square you can find the City Hall and the South Balaton Cultural Center. In the city center, in front of the train station the Millennium park is located. Besides its nice view it also ensures a place to rest for the population and the guests of the town.

On the several kilometers long green avenues and nice beaches of the Golden Beach you can see thousands of people, who are enjoying the pleasures of the summer, holiday and recovery. Also you can admire the beautiful eastern basin of the Balaton, as well as the beckoning mountains on the other side. The temperature of the lake is quite friendly, because of its shallow deepness it warms up quickly. The nice weather in May makes the lake convinient for swimming already in the springtime.
